If Republicans supported Gay Rights, would they be the perfect party?

Foley isn't the only closeted gay man in politics to come out recently (remember McGreevey)-- but because he is a republican (and republicans are supposedly anti gay) he is getting a lot of flack from libs. Would things be different if Foley was a democrat?
