Why aren't people being given a choice about the new digital TV tecnology?

It's called progress, and is no different than when cds first came out, no-one had a choice but to upgrade from onld record players after a while. And mobile phone technology, old frequency networks go and people have to upgrade. Just move with the times and enjoy the better picture. And its not that new....elsewhere in the world, HD signals have been around for a while.
